O.P.I Nail Varnish.

We want to assure you that OPI is committed to the safety of our consumers and of Beauty Professionals, and emphasize that we have always taken the necessary steps to ensure that our products exceed safety standards. In light of these most recent concerns, however, and even though our products have always been safe, we have taken the unprecedented step of reformulating our Nail Lacquers, Nail Treatments, and Nail Hardeners to remove some of the ingredients that have been the topic of recent discussion, while maintaining the high product quality standards we and you expect:
Since 2006, OPI has reformulated its entire line of Nail Lacquers, Nail Treatments, and Nail Hardeners to eliminate DBP (dibutyl phthalate) and Toluene.

Formaldehyde has never been an ingredient in OPI Nail Lacquers or Nail Treatments.

Some OPI Nail Hardeners do contain formaldehyde, while others are formulated without it to give consumers a choice. The levels of formaldehyde are more than four times lower than the safe levels established by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. In fact, according to a study conducted under the auspices of the California authorities, the levels of formaldehyde, even in nail salons, are no higher than those found in many common work places, such as offices, where no nail products whatsoever are present. OPI continues to search for effective alternates to formaldehyde.

Logona Facial.

All about Logona

Facial Care Matching your skin’s biological rhythm.

Experience the uniquely gratifying pleasure of naturally beautiful, healthy skin. LOGONA products protect and nurture your skin using gentle botanical forces. Active phytocosmetic ingredients and premium vegetable oils deliver your skin all it needs to gain and retain its natural radiance and healthy beauty.

Because beautiful skin is not simply a question of age

LOGONA facial care offers care and cleansing products formulated especially for the individual needs of your skin. All formulations incorporate the latest advances in dermatology, and take into consideration the changing environmental influences impacting your skin every day.

Logona follows the principle of skin self-correction

Human skin is alive and sensitive. It reacts to seasonal changes, to changes in life’s circumstances, and to environmental influences. These factors can cause normal, healthy skin to become oily, dry, or highly sensitive. The typical approach of skin care products to add oil and moisture to dry skin, or to withdraw them from oily skin, is simply not adequate. With this approach, the skin generally receives the wrong signal to correct the underlying problem. LOGONA products work differently.

The biological rhythm of the skin

Underlying the LOGONA facial care concept is solid scientific understanding of the natural workings of the skin. This know-ledge base enables the development of products which gently, but effectively, stimulate the skin’s own powers of correction and healing. Corresponding to the natural rhythms and requirements of your skin, the products are designed to deliver moisture and protection from external influences during the day, and to stimulate the skin’s regenerative functions during the night.

Types Of Hair Irons.

Types of hair irons

Curling iron

Curling irons, also known as curling tongs, create waves or curls in the hair. There are many different types of modern curling irons, which can vary by diameter, material, and shape of barrel and the type of handle. The barrel's diameter can be anywhere from .5 inches (1.3 cm) to 2 inches (5.1 cm). Smaller barrels typically create spiral curls or ringlets, and larger barrels are used to give shape and volume to a hairstyle.
Curling irons are typically made of Teflon, ceramic, tourmaline, metal, or titanium, each of which has its pros and cons. The barrel's shape can either be a cylinder, cone, or reverse cone, and the iron can have brush attachments or double and triple barrels.
The curling iron can also have either a spring-loaded, Marcel, or clipless handle. Spring-loaded handles are the most popular and use a spring to work the barrel's clamp. When using a Marcel handle, named after Marcel Grateau, one applies his or her own pressure to the clamp. Clipless wands have no clamp, and the user simply wraps hair around a rod. Most clipless curling irons come with a Kevlar glove to avoid burns.

Straightening irons

Straightening irons, straighteners, or flat irons, not to be confused with clothing irons, work by breaking down the hair's hydrogen bonds found in the hair's cortex, which cause hair to bend and become curly. Once the bonds are broken, hair is prevented from holding its original, natural form, though the hydrogen bonds can re-form if exposed to moisture. They can also use infrared technology.

Copper...

Copper...
Who can wear it?  Seeing that copper red hair can range from a warm light strawberry blonde to a high lighted deep dark auburn . . . it has the leeway to suit most everyone.

Warm copper red hair is best complimented by those with pale skin tone and green or blue eyes! That combination in my point of view is the quintessential combination that best compliments warm copper red hair.

Cool copper red hair reflects coppery tones on top of deep auburn hair. This darker tone is worn best with cool skin undertones, pale with no colour in cheeks, and medium skin tones that tan easily.

All About Layers.

Whether you have long or short hair, layered hair styles can add a fun and trendy look to your locks. They provide texture, volume and contemporary appeal to any style.

Types of Layered Hair Styles

No matter what length your hair is, layers can help you create a look that flatters your face, adds volume to your locks and interest to your style. Many cuts can be modified with layers, but there are several cuts that work particularly well with them.

Layered Bob

The standard bob hairstyle has been around for decades with good reason. This traditional cut creates a medium length cut that works on many faces and hair types. If you like the length and overall cut of the bob, but desire something a little more interesting, have very thick hair or need to inject a little volume into the style, layers can help.
Add a few long layers to the front of the bob for a softer look. To create an edgier style, start with an inverted bob, then add layers up the back to get rid of some of the hair's weight. The result is an asymmetrical look that can be air or blown dry for various looks.

Stick Tips Extensions.

When you order Halo ring stick tip hair extensions from us, you can be sure that all the hair we use is 100% human hair. With hair extensions from Stick Tip all the hair lies in the same direction meaning you can treat your hair extensions just as though they were your own hair.

If you’re looking for almost undetectable additions to your natural look, Halo ring hair extensions are available from Stick Tip, and everyone agrees that a process involving no glue, heat or chemicals has to be a good thing. Halo ring hair extensions use a very small ring that will grip small sections of your own hair and will easily last for 3 or 4 months before needing to be reinstalled, retightened or removed. Halo rings will remain in place through your best days and your worst days too, they’ll stay where you put them during the most strenuous of activities, and they’re so comfortable you’ll forget you’re wearing them.

You can choose from hundreds of different colours and shades of hair extensions from Stick Tip with Halo rings coming in almost as many colours to give a near perfect match, and due to their small size you will find that hair extensions can now be added to areas of your own hair where you previously thought it impossible!

Salon International - Sunday 16th.

Today the Retreat Team were really happy to be attending Salon International 2011. With nearly 200 exhibitors taking their place at Salon International this year, there was plenty to see.
We made the two hour trip to The Excel Exhibition Centre, at the historic London Docklands. When we arrived the hall was full to bursting with hundreds of hair professional, not only from the UK but Italy, France, Spain, Iceland and even The USA.
It was great to be amongst the first to see the latest industry innovations and exclusive product launches being unveiled at the show.
This year we were all excited about the much anticipated return of the HJ stage!  We were greeted firstly with the BaByliss Pro Stage. Chris Appleton led the show with some great hair up work, showing some great techniques that Emma can’t wait to use on her next photoshoot.
The Fellowship for British Hairdressing stage showcased some amazing hairstyles delivered by some of the most creative, influential and esteemed names in the business.
The Team spent a lot of time watching the Wahl Stage, I’m sure it was all creative research and nothing to do with the very dishy male models!
Emma spent a long time in the British Hairdressing Awards Gallery, where you were able to see work from the finalists of the 2011 British Hairdressing Awards; it was sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional. Such an inspirational collection, it has given us inspiration to bring forward to our work on a daily basis.
We also enjoyed The New Exhibitor’s Zone. This is the opportunity to see the freshest products and services available from first time exhibitors. We tried out some of the most creative innovations and product ranges around.
We stocked up on our favourite brushes and combs at Denman International. They are the UK’s foremost supplier of professional hairdressing equipment. We also loved the demonstrations by Mark Woolley.
Free business and training advice, e-learning demonstrations, books, training manuals, DVDs, health and safety were being provided by Habia, as they were celebrating 25 years of raising standards.
There was so much on offer this year. It was great to soak up the amazing atmosphere and mix with the many thousands of like-minded hairdressing professionals.
Emma got stopped every two minutes to have her photo taken by enthusiastic stylists!
Despite all being tired from an action packed day we managed to squeeze in a yummy offering from the chocolate fountains on our way out of the centre!

Autumn/Winter Colour Collection.

Be ready this winter with the new 3D Natural Colour Effects hair colour.

Natural colours are a big seasonal trend in Autumn/ Winter 2011: By using simple principles in colour combination, application and placement you can create natural colour results that “pop out” and naturally come alive, from subtle enhancement to transformational natural looks. Different colours are exposed depending on the light reflection and perspective so you cannot tell where one colour starts and where it ends for incredibly natural looks!

A NEW 3D TECHNIQUE FOR COLOUR TOUCH
A free-hand brick technique for a soft graduation of shades on different levels.

INSPIRING FOR YOU, WEARABLE FOR YOU
The looks- inspired by TREND VISION 2011 trends Glamazon and Polaris- demontrate premium-looking 3D Colour Effects on a range of rich natural, pure natural and deep brown shades styled to perfection with the Wella Professionals Styling range.

TIP OF THE DAY - Hats = less frizz in the winter!

Wednesday 5 October 2011

WorldSkills Wonder.

WorldSkills London 2011, the largest international skills competition to date, will be at ExCel London, on the 5-8 October. It's 20 years since the UK last hosted the event and an estimated 150,000 visitors will witness 1,00 people from more than 50 countries competing in 46 skill areas, from hairdressing to cabinet-making, catering to plumbing, over four demanding days of action and assessment.
Adele Simpkin knows all about the privilege and pressure of representing the UK hair industry from her experience of taking part in WorldSkills Helsinki 2005.
As a third-year trainee at Central Sussex College, Crawley, with an impressive track record of competition success, she was among a handful head-hunted by Robert Rousseau of WorldSkills Team UK to battle it out for selection.

Finishing an credible 8th place, Adele received the WorldSkills Medal of Excellence.

Adele is one of the young hairdressers featured in the L'Oreal Professional Products Dream Career film and brochure that will raise awareness about a career in hairdressing at this year's WorldSkills event.

TIP OF THE DAY - When you're starting out, success at competition level can fast-track your career and provide opportunities that you might otherwise miss out on.

Tuesday 4 October 2011

KeraStraight.

KeraStraight KS Complex is a 100% Formaldehyde and Aldehyde free keratin smoothing treatment which has been independently certified by Intertek. Transparency is paramount to KeraStraight Ltd and full date sheets are available online and on request. The well-being of our salons, their teams and their clients is central to our philosophy.
Following the recent media exposure reguarding Brazilian keratin treatments, KeraStraight is determined to ensure all its partner salons, and the industry as a whole, is kept informed and assured of the company's stance on this matter.

Holly had her first attempt at KeraStraight.
She loved how good the treatment worked as she tried out a product called La Brazilana which she was very disappointed in.
So when she completed her KeraStraight today she was highly impressed with the quality of the product and how it does what it tells you on the packet.

Blonde Are Back In Fashion!

Here's a cool example of what you could do with blonde hair...

The blue will fade fast, but is easy to touch up in its location. We love this look!

If you feel like going blonde but don't want that yellow look you can always use some purple shampoo & conditioner which can help take that away. The opposite of yellow is purple/violet and using a purple shampoo/conditioner will effectively neutralise all the yellow 'tones' in the hair. It DOES work honest. In fact there are a number of products specifically designed for this problem and what they do is deposit a tiny bit of 'purple-hued' pigment in the hair to calm the yellow tones down. It also works for natural blondes in need af a bit of a boost, as well as highlights.

So if you fancy going blonde this year, maybe spice it up a bit!

Friday 30 September 2011

Mythic Oil & Gelitz.

We have just got a brand new product into the Salon which is called Mythic Oil. It's enriched with a special blend of avocado and grape seed oil, this lightweight oil cares and pampers all hair types. Nourishing even the finest hair, the formula leaves hair looking shiny, feeling nourished and supple.

This is one review: RATING: 10/10 - this product may not seem affordable at first but for the amount you use it is definitely worth it. It lives up to all claims made, the proof is noticeable before and after use!
This product has quickly become something I couldn't live without, it smooths my hair and banishes frizz better than any other product I've ever used. My mum loves it so much she's asked me to get it for her birthday!

Also we are looking into getting Gelitz into the Salon -
Gelitz is the result of long and extensive research, it represents state of the art innovation in nail colour technology.
It's completely solvent free, it does not contain tolulene, formaldehyde, phthalates or any VOCs (volatile organic compounds) like ethyl acetate or butyl acetate.
It is not a Gel/Polish it's 100% gel in a bottle and applied like nail polish, it wears and lasts as a gel should, its much kinder to the natural nail and the environment.

Goldwell Academy Course.

Emma Hellier, Matt Hellier & Leesha Sheeran went on a course at the Goldwell Academy which was called The Fantastic Hairdresser.
Hairdressing business guru Alan Austin-Smith, founder of the Fantastic Hairdresser Company and owner of the new Business Academy in Chiswick, explains what it takes to be a great boss.
This guy is FANTASTIC, he really makes you look more into detail about long term & not short term. he helped us understand a bit more about Leadership development and Team development.
What makes people fantastic at their job - has nothing to do with their job - it has something to do with all the other stuff - communication, confidence, self motivation, customer delight etc... that's what makes a difference. That's a quote from the master Alan Austin-Smith himself!

Passed the Goldwell Course and Staff Pictures.

Yesterday Libby, Holly and Sophie went on the Goldwell Inspiration Colour Correction and Fundamental Colour 1&2 Course at Eastbourne College. They all really enjoyed the course and found it very beneficial for their hairdressing career.

Last night Emma and The Team got together for some professional pictures to be taken of everyone in the salon. These pictures will be helping the online booking we will be having on our website. If you can't remember either the hairdresser or beauticians name the picture will help instead. Keep an eye out for them, they will be uploaded very soon!

We've had a very good day in the salon today and we hope you've all had a lovely day too.

And on the first day....

Our first Blog from the Retreat Hair and Beauty. Here we will post all our hairdressing related activity in and out of the Salon, including special web deals and promotions.

Our Salon is based in Bexhill on Sea; we pride ourselves on providing a high-end, modern service, whilst keeping the fantastic "salon experience" and customer service which is far too often forgotten today in our industry.

We specialise in organic services and products, develop our own style of hair extensions and provide the only Keratin smoothing system which is 100% safe whilst pregnant.

We also have a Beauty section offering a natural alternative on all services from the creams to the wax, and will soon be offering the only organic spray tan on the market.

Hope you enjoy our blog!
